Great Outdoors in North Wales

Famous for their scenery, our landscapes are some of the best in the world. Woodland, parkland and grassland. Fast-flowing rivers and miles of coastline. And the cleanest air. You can be totally alone.

Or explore it with friends. And it doesn’t matter what time of year you visit. It’s always beautiful.

At 1085 metres Snowdon is the highest mountain in England and Wales. You can catch a train to the top. Or hike up it. That’ll blow the cobwebs away. And if you love to walk, we have hundreds of miles of trails. Including one that stretches along the North Wales coast. Talking of coasts, the Isle of Anglesey’s coastal path is 125 miles long. Luckily, there are plenty of pubs along the way.

Our country parks are good for walking around, too. The Great Orme Country Park has great trails. And great wildlife. And a first-class spot for watching the sunset over the Irish Sea. Nant Mill visitor Centre near Wrexham is a great place to start the Clywedog Trail. Strangely enough, it’s got a giant mole tunnel. Complete with worms.

Our country tracks are perfect for bikes. There are easy rides. And some really tough ones. And if you like a challenge our lumps and bumps are perfect for abseiling down. Or climbing up. We have some of the finest rock climbing routes in the UK. If you have a head for heights.

North Wales is bristling with wildlife. More than 200 species of bird regularly visit the RSPB Reserve at Conwy. Exciting varieties can be seen all the year. So its perfect for serious birders. And it’s not unusual to spot the odd seal, porpoise or bottlenose dolphin around the coast either.

You’re never far away from water here. So fishing’s big. Our beaches are clean so they’re great for surfing. And our coastal waters are perfect for sailing. Conwy has a festival devoted to it. There’s great canoeing and white water rafting on our rivers. But you could always just dip your toe in.

Golf is big news here, too. Some of our courses are world-class. The unwinding is good here. So’s the strolling. We’ve some of the country’s best formal gardens right in our back yard. Great for a meander. As well as lawns, ponds and plant collections, Bodnant Garden has a 55 metre Laburnum tunnel. It’s at its best in June.
